    What truly defines the TCG is the individual card mechanics. No matter how good the general design appears if individual pieces that you actually play are mediocre, that becomes the bottleneck and your experience would be limited by it. Let's compare and contrast HEX and Magic in regards to this topic.

    Permanent Mechanics

    Nerfing or buffing your creature/troop is by no means unique to Magic or any other TCG. You can buff or nerf your creature/troop by utilizing various method such as via some card ability, or other creature/troop interacting each other and so on.



    What makes HEX different from Magic, and perhaps unique is PERMANENT effect.

    RPG Analogy

    Throughout this article, I will put a subsection called RPG Analogy. Here basically I compare the similarities between the two games (HEX and Magic) is whether beyond the game genre or not i.e. so many RPGs are out there now, and you can argue at one point certain things were unique to the RPG but there are so many overlaps/standardized pieces within the genre itself and many games share them.

    If you like FPS or any other genre, I am sure you can come up with the similar analogy.

    With a recent lawsuit, I have decided revisit the assessment of similarities and differences between the Magic the Gathering and HEX. The original article I have written back in last year was prior to the actual game release of the HEX, so primarily written based on the available information from the developers. Now we are roughly 8 months into the game since the first public alpha release, how do they compare? This time I am going to look at piece by piece.     From the day 1, several players in the community suggested the similarity between the HEX and the gold standard of the TCG, Magic the Gathering. Apparently, the similarity was enough to catch the wizard of the coast eyes, and they have filed a lawsuit in United States against the HEX/Cryptozoic.
